Driving Home (Clean) for Christmas!

A number of local apprentices from Yamazaki Mazak have raised over £1,000 for Children in Need by hosting a Christmas charity car wash.

The car wash was held outside the entrance to Yamazaki Mazak’s European Headquarters on Badgeworth Drive, Worcester, on Wednesday 15th December; and the manufacturer matched the total raised by the event to ensure a double donation for the charity.

It was the latest in a series of community projects undertaken by Mazak in 2021, following its partnership with the Worcestershire Environmental Group to recycle all leftover wooden packaging into houses and feeders for local wildlife; and the sponsorship of ‘Strawberryphant’ elephant as part of Worcester’s Big Parade.

Gina Antoniou, 19, Machining Apprentice at Yamazaki Mazak, comments: “Children in Need is such a worthy cause, and with so many children facing a challenging Christmas, as an apprenticeship group we decided we wanted to play our part and raise some money. It was fantastic to have so many cars stop by and we’re looking forward to planning more events in 2022.”

Chris Morris, Learning & Development Manager at Yamazaki Mazak, adds: “It’s fantastic to see our apprenticeship cohort come up with a great charity initiative completely independently, and want to contribute to a wonderful charity that does so much valuable work throughout the year.

“There is a great emphasis at Mazak on investing in our apprentices to help them develop into not only very capable engineers, but – perhaps more importantly – good people too.”
