Sheet Metal Supervisor

Key Purpose and Scope of the Role:

  • To support the management operations of the Sheet Metal Department within YMUK production.
  • Foster a culture of LEAN thinking and continuous improvement with a view to improving overall Productivity along with working quality standards.
  • Sustain and where required establish new operational processes and standards for the department.
  • Embed a 5s philosophy throughout the department along with maintaining daily housekeeping routines.
  • Co-ordinate stock taking activities across all areas when required.
  • Administer company policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Support the effective management of overtime and other ongoing operational costs / expenditure.
  • Control work flow to meet customer delivery deadlines.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ideally an apprentice served fabricator.
  • Shop floor management experience (Cell Leader, Team Leader or Supervisor) within a Sheet Metal / fabrication department.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • A supporting management qualification (NVQ Level 3 in Supervisory Management, NEBSM or equivalent) would be an advantage although training will be given to the right candidate as this is an expectation of this role.

Key Responsibilities

The day to day management of the fabrication area within the Sheet Metal Department including the following:

Health and Safety

  • To ensure compliance to all appropriate Health and Safety legislation is maintained.
  • To make sure all staff adhere to company Health and Safety rules.
  • To report appropriately Lost Time Accidents, Minor Accidents and Near Misses.
  • Conduct and maintain all appropriate Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

Quality

  • Ensure all Mazak quality standards are maintained.
  • Through the use of appropriate KPI’s monitor quality performance for the work area and department.
  • Support and strongly promote departmental Kaizen meetings with a view to reducing defect levels through worker engagement.  

Adherence to the Production Plan

  • Monitor and maintain output so that the Production Plan is achieved.
  • Through effectively planning anticipate process bottleneck areas and take appropriate actions to avoid delays.
  • Support load capacity planning to make sure required resources are in place.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with other departments to make sure all resources can be applied correctly and production objectives are met.     

Cost

  • Apply appropriate control over overtime hours worked to make sure labor costs are controlled.
  • Support the management of all departmental expense budgets.

People

  • Promote a “team” based working environment so that all staff can effectively contribute and feel part of the group along with developing a culture of respect for the individual.
  • Maintain training records and systems so that ongoing staff development is maintained.
  • Monitor individual staff performance making sure that both good and poor performance are highlighted to the individuals concerned.

Sheet Metal Development Engineer

Sheet Metal Development Engineer

Key Purpose and Scope of the Role

  • To support all engineering requirements of the Sheet Metal Department within YMUK Production.
  • Using established tools and methods support the engineering development and introduction of new products.
  • Pursue operational improvements within the Sheet Metal Department and/or other work areas through appropriate design improvements.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  • Apprentice / time served Mechanical Engineer with appropriate qualification (ONC / HND).
  • Shop floor experience preferably in a fabrication role although machine shop / tool room experience may also be considered.  
  • Be able to understand and create fabrication drawings for manufacture to BS8888.
  • Experience with creating flat pattern development drawings for manufacture. Preferably using Solidworks 2016.
  • Experience using Radan 2016 software (material nesting).
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Key Responsibilities

  • The introduction of Sheet Metal modifications from Japan
  • The introduction of UK design modifications to include breakdown of 3D models from solid works and flat pack development of sheet metal.
  • Implement modification change requests from the show floor to aid production.
  • Liaise with European engineering on sheet metal development issues if problems occur.
  • Maintain internal data bases for accurate record keeping.
  • Design jigs & fixtures aid accurate fabrication whilst in production.

Human Resource/ Business Admin Intern

Human Resource/ Business Admin Intern – 3 months paid internship

3 month initial post but potential to extend

We are looking for a pro-active & enthusiastic individual to help our Human Resource department with the development & implementation of a variety of wellbeing initiatives as part of a wider Employee Engagement project. They will also have the opportunity to shadow our HR Advisor with disciplinary/sickness absence/grievance cases and carry out other HR administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to gain experience in either Human Resources or Business Admin.  Working with the HR Advisor and Wellbeing Champions:

  • Provide administrative support to the HR department
  • Practical support in the implementation process of various Employee Engagement initiatives
  • Partake/lead in Kaizen activities such as focus groups

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Self-motivation and good time management
  • Project planning and project management
  • Good organisation skills

Information Technology Proficiency

  • MS Word
  • MS Excel
  • MS Power Point

Qualifications

  • GCSE grades C or above in English and Maths
  • Relevant HR experience or qualification would be advantageous but not necessary
