Yamazaki Mazak is the world's largest manufacturer of computer controlled (CNC) metal-cutting machines. With over 200 different models, the Mazak product range includes CNC lathes, machining centres, multi-tasking machines and flexible manufacturing systems as well as laser processing machines.

As part of our ongoing plans to develop and enhance the Applications Team we are looking to recruit an Applications Engineer.

Job Description

  • The role is to provide the expertise required supporting customers, Sales Team, Service Team and UK sales support colleagues at all levels.
  • Communicate to a high standard to liaise with the Application Manager, Sales Team, customers and suppliers.
  • Identify level of detail required, time frame, budgets, etc. at the proposal stage.
  • Planning and preparing customer special cutting demonstrations.
  • Detailed in depth NC control & CAM system demonstrations.
  • Support in answering all telephone enquiries.
  • Participate in all work carried out in the showroom.
  • Planning of machine demonstrations showcasing the latest technology and partners / supplier technology.
  • Planning and proving demonstrations for shows & running of shows (national & international).
  • Support as required with providing program training courses for customers.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise tasks.
  • Identify new technology, relating to the machine, options and local supply including work holding, programming CAD/CAM, Automation, in process measuring systems etc.
  • Visit customers as required to give technical assistance to Sales & Service Departments
  • Uses own experience and initiative, to bring to a successful conclusion. 

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Broad CNC machining experience
  • Knowledge of machine technology and CAD/CAM systems
  • Strong problem-solving ability, together with a flexible approach to a varied workload

Desirable criteria:

  • A HNC/HND Engineering Qualification
  • Completed a Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship

ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY (LEVEL 3) (6 VACANCIES):

Wire and test machine tools and their components. Working on individual option looms that will be used in the final production of our machine tools, you will then progress to wiring and testing a range of CNC machines, to include PLCs, ladder diagrams and fault finding prior to machines going to our customers. There would be an opportunity for 2 apprentices to further develop a career in the Electrical Design Engineering Department.

MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY (LEVEL 3) (2 VACANCIES):

Assemble and test machine tools and their components. Assembling and testing unit assemblies into the completed machine tool using various hand skills and laser checking equipment.

MECHANICAL SPINDLE ASSEMBLY (LEVEL 3) (1 VACANCIES):

Learning how to prepare, build and test spindles, you will use a manual Lathes and a grinding machine, processes include bearing preparation and fitting, becoming familiar with using a balancing machine, assembly to high accuracy using measuring equipment and a varied range of hand skills such as lapping, the spindles are then supplied to our general assembly production line.

SPINDLE SERVICE CENTRE MECHANICAL ASSEMBLY (LEVEL 3) (2 VACANCIES):

Learning how to diagnose, disassemble, repair and test used machine tool spindles for our European Market. An apprentice in this area will learn the full operations of the section which includes sections such as administration and exports, supply chain handling, testing, inspection, and technical support roles.

MACHINING (LEVEL 3) (2 VACANCIES):

Learning how to set, program and operate a range of CNC machine tools to produce machine tool components.
Machines include Lathes, Milling, Grinding, Multi-Tasking, 5 axis machines and Component Inspection.

APPLICATIONS ENGINEER (2 VACANCIES):

Mazak machines are used to make thousands of different components every day, in volume applications, small batches and prototype work. Our customers are often required to manufacture new components, at short notice, with complex geometries and different materials.

Machine tool applications engineers provide the technical expertise required to support customers, sales team and service department.

This typically could include computerized numerical controlled programming (CNC), robotics / automation solutions, engineering drawings, process engineering, quality control, Computer aided design (CAD) , computer aided manufacturing (CAM) , CNC machine operation, project management and customer training.  

SHEET METAL (LEVEL 3) (2 VACANCIES):

Learning the application of welding, laser cutting and metal folding to produce machine tool claddings. An apprentice in this area will learn the full skills and operations of a modern sheet metal producing department.

SHEET METAL TECHNICAL SUPPORT (LEVEL 3) (2 VACANCIES)

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechatronics Technician / Fitter to join our team. This role combines expertise in mechanical, electrical, and control systems to ensure the seamless operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment. The ideal candidate will gain a strong understanding of mechatronics principles and be able to diagnose, repair, and improve complex mechanical and electronic systems in a fast-paced environment. Applicants with a level 3 in Mechatronics would be considered for one of the apprenticeships available, long term this would suit candidates who wish to pursue a degree or diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Vacancies in our Factory

H&S Trainer and Advisor

We are seeking to appoint an H&S Trainer and Advisor to complement our H&S Team.  The person will be responsible for the day-to-day training of all mandatory H&S training requirements, such as crane training, forklift truck, manual handling etc. The successful candidate should have a positive “can do” attitude, be approachable, have a good understanding of training requirements within a manufacturing facility and come equipped with the necessary qualifications to fulfil the role.

Reporting to the Health, Safety, Environmental and Energy Manager, the responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Delivery of mandatory H&S training activities across a range of disciplines such as Manual Handling, Crane Training, Forklift Truck and other H&S related topics.
  • Working closely with the H&S administrator to ensure all staff attend H&S courses appropriate for their job roles.
  • Supporting the manager in identifying any training needs within the H&S arena.
  • Support in the preparation of month end reports and other H&S related meetings.
  • Support in maintaining departmental H&S training records.
  • Dealing with ad hoc training activities, after accident investigations etc.
  • Assisting Managers and supervisors with any H&S related training activities.

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Must hold industry recognised qualifications against training activities listed above.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of H&S legislation.
  • Hold or working towards a nationally recognised H&S qualification.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple supervisory staff.
  • Ability to develop and deliver a range of H&S training activities.
  • Good report writing skills.

Desirable criteria:

  • Ability to work different shift patterns dependant on training requirements.
