Sheet Metal Supervisor

Sheet Metal Supervisor

Key Purpose and Scope of the Role:

  • To support the management operations of the Sheet Metal Department within YMUK production.
  • Foster a culture of LEAN thinking and continuous improvement with a view to improving overall Productivity along with working quality standards.
  • Sustain and where required establish new operational processes and standards for the department.
  • Embed a 5s philosophy throughout the department along with maintaining daily housekeeping routines.
  • Co-ordinate stock taking activities across all areas when required.
  • Administer company policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Support the effective management of overtime and other ongoing operational costs / expenditure.
  • Control work flow to meet customer delivery deadlines.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ideally an apprentice served fabricator.
  • Shop floor management experience (Cell Leader, Team Leader or Supervisor) within a Sheet Metal / fabrication department.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • A supporting management qualification (NVQ Level 3 in Supervisory Management, NEBSM or equivalent) would be an advantage although training will be given to the right candidate as this is an expectation of this role.

Key Responsibilities

The day to day management of the fabrication area within the Sheet Metal Department including the following:

Health and Safety

  • To ensure compliance to all appropriate Health and Safety legislation is maintained.
  • To make sure all staff adhere to company Health and Safety rules.
  • To report appropriately Lost Time Accidents, Minor Accidents and Near Misses.
  • Conduct and maintain all appropriate Risk Assessments and Method Statements.

Quality

  • Ensure all Mazak quality standards are maintained.
  • Through the use of appropriate KPI’s monitor quality performance for the work area and department.
  • Support and strongly promote departmental Kaizen meetings with a view to reducing defect levels through worker engagement.  

Adherence to the Production Plan

  • Monitor and maintain output so that the Production Plan is achieved.
  • Through effectively planning anticipate process bottleneck areas and take appropriate actions to avoid delays.
  • Support load capacity planning to make sure required resources are in place.
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with other departments to make sure all resources can be applied correctly and production objectives are met.     

Cost

  • Apply appropriate control over overtime hours worked to make sure labor costs are controlled.
  • Support the management of all departmental expense budgets.

People

  • Promote a “team” based working environment so that all staff can effectively contribute and feel part of the group along with developing a culture of respect for the individual.
  • Maintain training records and systems so that ongoing staff development is maintained.
  • Monitor individual staff performance making sure that both good and poor performance are highlighted to the individuals concerned.

Candidates will ideally have complex, multi-currency purchase ledger experience within a large organisation.

The main aspects of the role will include:

  • Maintenance and processing cash payments & receipts books
  • Payment authorisation and BACS payments
  • Booking miscellaneous purchase & sales invoices

  • Maintenance & reconciliation of petty cash book

Human Resource/ Business Admin Intern

Human Resource/ Business Admin Intern – 3 months paid internship

3 month initial post but potential to extend

We are looking for a pro-active & enthusiastic individual to help our Human Resource department with the development & implementation of a variety of wellbeing initiatives as part of a wider Employee Engagement project. They will also have the opportunity to shadow our HR Advisor with disciplinary/sickness absence/grievance cases and carry out other HR administrative tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to gain experience in either Human Resources or Business Admin.  Working with the HR Advisor and Wellbeing Champions:

  • Provide administrative support to the HR department
  • Practical support in the implementation process of various Employee Engagement initiatives
  • Partake/lead in Kaizen activities such as focus groups

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Self-motivation and good time management
  • Project planning and project management
  • Good organisation skills

Information Technology Proficiency

  • MS Word

Qualifications

Sales Engineer - Midlands Region

Sales Engineer - Midlands Region

Reporting to the Midlands General Sales Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the generation of new business opportunities across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire & Shropshire (subject to confirmation) and report daily to the General Sales Manager. They will be supported by existing market knowledge and telemarketing capacity. Upon completion of product training the candidate will be predominately field based, they will investigate and visit prospective new customers in order to develop and qualify these new opportunities, thus increasing market share.
The package includes target related bonus, appropriate car, mobile phone & laptop.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated, passionate, energetic, organised and well-presented engineer to grow within the worlds largest privately owned machine tool manufacturer.

  • Ideally have successfully completed a mechanical engineering apprenticeship
  • Shop floor experience ideal with appropriate qualification HNC/HND, GCSE Maths, English, Sciences A-C and practical
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within manufacturing/engineering sector and have had some exposure to CNC machine tools.
  • Ideally based around the Staffordshire, West Midlands or North Warwickshire area.
  • Must be able to demonstrate clear communication & presentation skills both verbally & written.
  • Full UK driving license
  • Sales experience within the manufacturing/engineering environment would be beneficial
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
